Californie : ils ont dompté le sommet du Yosemite
EN IMAGES - Deux alpinistes américains sont parvenus à gravir en escalade libre l'un des sommets les plus connus du parc de Yosemite. Une première.
L'info. C'est un exploit. Deux alpinistes américains ont réussi, pour la première fois, à conquérir en escalade libre le fameux sommet El Capitan, un mur de près de mille mètres dans le très touristique parc de Yosemite en Californie.
Une ascension que les deux hommes ont fait partager sur Instagram , grâce à deux photographes qui suivaient leur progression, en s'appuyant uniquement sur les prises offertes par le rocher.
The last few days have been some of the most memorable climbing days of my life. Yesterday I finished the last two 5.13+ pitches of the climb. This marks the end of the major difficulties. I kind of lost it when I pulled onto Wino Tower knowing that this seven year dream is looking more and more like it could become a reality. Now I am in full support mode until @kjorgeson catches up. Today Kevin managed to climb pitch 15 in the most inspired climbing moment of his life. It was such an intense and incredible thing to witness. It's not over yet, but things are looking good. Des tentes suspendues pour dormir. Tommy Caldwell et Kevin Jorgeson ont démarré leur ascension du Dawn Hall fin décembre, sans aucun autre outil que leurs pieds et leurs mains, ainsi que des cordes pour les assurer. Ils dormaient dans des tentes suspendues le long de la vertigineuse paroi granitique, trois fois plus haute que la tour Eiffel ou que le plus haut gratte-ciel du monde, le Burj Khalifa à Dubaï.
The start of the push is finally here. Yesterday was our first day of a planned two weeks on the wall. "Réaliser un rêve". Les deux trentenaires ont fini leur ascension mercredi après-midi, selon une retransmission en direct. "Nous ne nous sommes pas donnés cette peine pour conquérir un sommet, mais pour réaliser un rêve", a tweeté Kevin Jorgeson juste avant de toucher le sommet. Leurs compagnes les y attendaient avec du champagne, ont rapporté les médias locaux.
In another inspiring battle late into the night Kevin managed to send pitches 18, 19, and 20. Clouds swirled all around It was truly a surreal scene. Tomorrow we leave our bacecamp and blast towards the top. With some luck we will be standing on top in a couple days.
